How correspondence play works

Overview

Correspondence play means you and your opponent take turns asynchronously — not in a live room. Submit a move when ready; your opponent is notified and replies on their schedule. A single match may span hours or days.

Objective

Win by the rules of your chosen game within the agreed time control. Stay responsive enough to move before each deadline.

Time controls

When creating a challenge, pick how long each player has per move:

  • 24 hours
  • 48 hours
  • 7 days

After every move, the active player receives a fresh deadline shown as Move by … on the match page and dashboard.

Notifications

Email and in-app alerts tell you when it is your turn, when a challenge is accepted, and when a match ends. The site may also highlight your turn while you browse.

Edge cases

Missing a deadline

You lose the match on time — there is no extension.

Not live play

There is no shared real-time clock. Correspondence rewards careful thought between moves.
